Smart energy management for all: QSC and twingz sign cooperation agreement
Cologne, February 9, 2015. QSC AG, the Germany-wide provider of ICT services and cloud-based solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT), has signed a cooperation agreement for energy management products with the young Austrian company twingz development GmbH. The basis for the cooperation is the “eCoach” product offered by twingz in conjunction with the “Solucon” cloud platform for smart IoT solutions developed by QSC’s subsidiary Q-loud GmbH.
The eCoach combines an optical reader for electricity meters with an energy management app for private households and businesses. What makes twingz’ reader so useful is that it turns conventional electricity meters into smart meters without any need for complicated installation. The battery-operated reader is simply attached to the electricity meter. The data collected is transferred by radio, WLAN or UMTS stick via a gateway to the cloud platform. From there, it can be accessed by app from any location or mobile. The eCoach enables consumers to check their electricity consumption and detect inefficient appliances. It thus helps them to cut their overall energy consumption. The eCoach is the first module in a whole series of QSC solutions for smart building energy management.
“Data security plays a crucial role in the Internet of Things”, commented Werner Weihs-Sedivy, CEO of twingz, with regard to the cooperation. “In QSC AG, we have found a partner able to offer us exactly the level of reliability and flexibility that is key for our products. Leading industrial companies in Austria, such as elk.at and oekostrom.at, are already using this technology. Initial proof-of-concept environments have been launched with municipal utility companies in Germany.”
“twingz is an innovative software company with first-class expertise in the energy sector and represents a superb extension to our portfolio”, added Thomas Surwald, CEO of Q-loud GmbH. “Together with our individually programmable platform for various applications, QSC can offer its partners and customers rapid, secure market entry for products from the Internet of Things.” QSC operates Solucon exclusively at its own data centers in Germany and simultaneously at three geographically separate locations. This zero downtime architecture guarantees maximum system stability.
QSC will be presenting the “Energy Radar” at the E-world energy & water fair in Essen from February 10 to 12. Here, one or several remote controlled outlets measure appliance consumption and transfer the data in real time to the cloud. Each hardware component has an individual hardware key allocated to the respective user account, so no additional configuration is needed at the point of use. twingz’ optical sensor is used here as well and simultaneously records total consumption directly at the electricity meter. Via an app developed by Q-loud, users can at all times monitor their consumption wherever they are and remotely control their outlets. This way, smart energy makes for a smart home.
