New data center for DATEV
Cologne/Nuremberg, April 29 2011. QSC AG, a provider of voice and data communication as well as the ICT services that build upon them, is making data center resources on more than 1,000 square meters of floor space available to Nuremberg-based DATEV eG. The project was implemented by IP Partner AG, a wholly-owned subsidiary of QSC that is also based in Nuremberg.
With this expansion, DATEV is responding to the steadily growing demand for data center-based services, which to no small degree is being driven by the trend toward Cloud Computing, DATEV Chief Executive Officer Professor Dieter Kempf stressed at the ceremonies inaugurating the data center in Nuremberg.
The data center was built by IP Colocation GmbH, a subsidiary of IP Partner AG that specializes in the construction of data centers. It made the new facility available to DATEV in accordance with its engineering, structural and highly challenging timeline requirements. This included basic building mechanical and electrical services, uninterruptable power supply (UPS) and emergency generating systems, the appropriate cooling systems, as well as security and fire protection facilities. IP Colocation coordinated the trades and service providers involved in the entire project, and as the landlord of the premises will continue to be responsible for their operation and maintenance. A service agreement has been entered into for a term of ten years. DATEV itself will be responsible for operating the IT infrastructure.
"We are very proud of the trust that DATEV is placing in our Housing and Hosting specialist IP Partner, since smooth operation of its data centers is mission-critical to the DATEV business model," QSC AG Chief Executive Officer Dr. Bernd Schlobohm explained at the official inauguration of the data center.
In December 2010, QSC AG acquired IP Partner AG as a specialist for IT Outsourcing and Hosting services. The company already operates two data centers in Munich and Nuremberg with more than 10,000 servers for over 1,000 business customers. With this acquisition, QSC is accelerating its transformation process from a TC provider to an integrated provider of ICT services, thus enabling it to offer its predominantly small and mid-size customers a broad spectrum of services, ranging from corporate networking through to data center services.
