QSC to continue operating proprietary DSL network
Cologne, 26 March 2015. QSC AG will no longer be pursuing the option of selling its DSL network. On 18 December 2014, the Company had announced that it would be reviewing various options for the use of its DSL network, including a potential sale. Two main factors have driven today’s decision: firstly, new opportunities arising due to a change in the competitive situation in the business customer market and, secondly, the importance of ensuring direct access to the entire infrastructure when it comes to positioning QSC AG as a leading cloud provider to medium-sized companies in Germany.
The business customer segment, which offers voice and data services to medium-sized companies, has been stable and profitable for years now. By contrast, comparable services in the private customer business, which are marketed via resellers, have declined. Assisted by the withdrawal of a major TC player from the German fixed network business, QSC plans to boost its TC business for business customers and to operate this profitably up to and beyond 2020.
Furthermore, having a proprietary DSL network also assists QSC in marketing its cloud strategy. Medium-sized companies in particular attach top priority to the security and availability of services, as well as to end-to-end quality at the network level as well. Possession of a proprietary broadband network and direct access to the entire infrastructure, including proprietary data centres, are therefore crucial factors in helping to position QSC as a provider of especially reliable and secure cloud services in Germany.
