Announcement in accordance with paragraph 15 of German Securities Law (WpHG)
Cologne, June 19, 2000 - QSC AG, Germany's first public high-speed internet access provider using SDSL technology, continues to execute its pan-European broadband strategy and has announced the roll-out of its services in the Neth-erlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. On June 17, QSC Benelux B.V. was founded jointly by QSC AG as well as Stirlink B.V., an investment company jointly owned by Jan and Theo Ploegmakers.
Jan Ploegmakers (58) will be appointed as CEO of QSC Benelux B.V. Ploegmakers' management experience over the past 30 years in the Dutch telecom and technology market includes the successful build up of Planet Media Group, today's largest ISP in the Netherlands, as well as the build-up of KPN's mobile telephony service from the start. From 1996 onwards, he served on the executive board of KPN Telecom where he was in charge of the mo-bile telephony business as well as all sales and marketing activities for fixed and mobile telephony services.
Dick Berkelder was appointed as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of the new venture where he will bear primary re-sponsibility for all sales and marketing activities. Prior to this appointment, Berkelder was a Senior Vice President at KPN Telecom where he was responsible for all third party sales and marketing.
In the first stage of its roll-out in the Netherlands, QSC Benelux plans to build its network into 300 co-locations. This network will provide blanket coverage broadband ac-cess to all major markets in the Netherlands. The company will expand its network services into Belgium and Luxem-bourg as soon as the regulatory framework is established.
QSC AG has the most extensive competitive broadband access network in Germany. Currently it has equipped more than 420 locations with its DSL technology in 24 cit-ies. Speedway-DSL fast internet access is marketed through 46 national ISP partners. Earlier this year QSC entered into a strategic distribution partnership with Global Telesystems Group Inc. and PSINet. By the end of the year QSC will have more than 900 locations in Germany's 40 largest cities that will enable it to reach up to 20 million users with broadband services.
